In America, Collegiate Tennis is played in the Spring where each team will compete against each other both regionally and nationally, giving athletes the opportunity to compete at a very high level.
Collegiate Tennis in the USA remains to be one of the most highly competitive sports, offering some fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities as well as providing an outstanding level of coaching.
Many of the world’s leading amateur talent view the American collegiate system as the best way to develop their game whilst simultaneously earning a university degree.
College tennis coaches were some of the first coaches to actively recruit overseas so college tennis has more international athletes than any other college sport. Competition is fierce, but playing tennis at the college level has become an international competition meaning you will compete against some of the best amateur players in the world.

Coaches have to maximise on their athletic budget, having fewer scholarships on offer per team. At higher levels, it is not that common for coaches to invest their money into players who need development. At that level, you would be expected to be at the top of your game – most likely in the top five singles or doubles teams in the country! Over 50% of NCAA DI scholarships are given to international student athletes but unless you have a solid ITF ranking and are playing at an international level, getting a scholarship at the top level is difficult.
However, there are many programs throughout the division levels, which will present you with the opportunity to play straight away, if your game needs some improvement.
