Two former FirstPoint clients enjoyed further recognition of their success when the trio of Gavin Dear, Callum Macaulay and Wallace Booth were awarded the Team of the Year at the prestigious Sunday Mail sportscotland Sports Awards in Glasgow.
George Crawford’s men beat off stiff competition including the Rangers side which reached the UEFA Cup Final in May to collect the award in front of a star-studded audience at the Glasgow Hilton which featured Sir Alex Ferguson, who received the honoured Lifetime Achievement Award from First Minister Alex Salmond.
Indeed it was a double success for the golfing contingent with Callum Macaulay picking up the award for Amateur Sportsperson of the Year, just days before the Tulliallan ace made his professional debut on the European Tour in South Africa.
A delighted Crawford said, “This is another fantastic achievement for the team and even to be nominated alongside such other great teams and sportsmen and women is a wonderful honour. Winning the World Amateur Team Championship was a momentous occasion for Scottish golf and all credit to the guys for the hard work they put in all season.”

Macaulay, who received his individual award from former Celtic football star turned pundit Andy Walker and round the world cyclist Mark Beaumont, beamed:
“To receive this award in front of my hero Sir Alex Ferguson is an amazing feeling and I’m thrilled to have won a national sporting award. The SGU have played a huge part in my success, as have my family, and I’m indebted to them.”
“It’s a great way to sign off my amateur career and I can’t wait to start in the professional ranks. Hopefully I can keep up the form I showed at Tour School and back in Adelaide beginning at the Alfred Dunhill Championship next week.” he added.
Treble Olympic gold medal cyclist Chris Hoy won the 2008 Scottish Sports Personality of the Year, whilst Andy Murray’s heroic US Open semi-final win over world number one Rafael Nadal was voted most inspirational moment.
