Meet Maddie

A talented multi-discipline athlete from a small village in the West of Scotland, FirstPoint USA athlete Maddie Cleat has already made a real name for herself in the US college sports scene.

Growing up in Kilmacolm and attending the illustrious St Columbus School, Maddie’s love for field hockey started at a very young age, playing 4 years with Kelburn Hockey Club and captaining the school team’s first XI.

Maddie also featured for the Scottish National Team at youth level, playing within the U16s set up for 2 years before being called up to the U18s team She went on to make over 15 appearances with Scotland, receiving Gold Honours in the process and facing off against some of the best international talent in the likes of Italy, Austria, and Ireland.

Committing to one of the top academic and athletic institutions in the University of California, Berkeley, Maddie quickly cemented her place on the Bears’ team after a rampant first season. She finished as the second-highest scoring freshman and was awarded her first America East Honor Roll award for outstanding academic excellence.

Maddie picked up where she left off in her second season at Cal, appearing in all 17 regular-season games, with multiple highlights including scoring the winning goal for the University’s 400th all-time victory and being named to both the NFHCA National Academic Squad and America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll for once again giving 100% in her studies.

Securing a 2nd NFHCA National Academic Squad selection and America East Honor Roll recognition in her Junior and Senior years, Maddie graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Economics and Policy before returning to secure her Graduate Certificate in Business Administration.

Maddie currently resides in New York City and works as a Market Development Representative for a Silicone Valley artificial intelligence technology business.
