We’re pleased to welcome Josh Lilly to our list of soccer players here at FirstPoint USA. Josh hails from Coulsdon, South London; he previously attended Oasis Academy, Coulsdon, and is currently enrolled at Reigate College. We recently caught up with Josh and he told us a bit more about himself, and what he is hoping to achieve from obtaining a soccer scholarship in the states.

Josh tells us he has been playing soccer since around the age of five, and a t that time was playing one year up. He has played with numerous academies throughout his playing career including Aldershot Town, Crawley Town, and Dartford. Josh has also played for Arsenal’s Development Centre, and is currently playing for Chessington and Hook FC’s Reserve Senior Side. Josh tells us his favourite sporting memory is from when he was playing for Aldershot Town. He tells us they were playing against Arsenal, who had some of the best players in the country at his age, so it was a big challenge. Josh states, that although they lost, getting to play at Arsenal’s training ground and having Arsenal legend, Liam Bailey, watch the match was an incredible experience.

We asked Josh why he wishes to head out to the states to study. He tells us that it has been his dream for years; knowing how good the playing standard out in the US is, Josh sees this as the perfect opportunity to be able to play soccer whilst simultaneously getting an education. Josh states that he is most looking forward to being a student athlete for the opportunity to play soccer every day, which was a huge attraction for him.

In order to find out some more about our clients, we often ask them who their three favourite sportspeople are; Josh had this to say…

“My first favourite sportsperson is definitely, Paul Scholes. Being a Manchester United fan and growing up watching him, definitely made me the player I am today.

My second favourite sportsperson is Ryan Giggs. This is mainly due to the way he can get past players without an issue. Also, seeing some of his skills when I was I was younger only made me want to get out on the pitch and try them.

My third favourite sportsperson is Conor McGregor. Off the pitch, I am a massive mixed martial arts fan and seeing how hard he worked to get where he is now, only inspires me to be the best I can.

Finally, we asked Josh where he sees himself being in 10 years time. Josh states that he hopes to be playing professionally out in America, but if that does not go to plan, then he would like to use his Sports Management degree and go into football agency, or even become a coach or scout.

We’d like to wish Josh the best of luck and we will keep you updated on his progress throughout our various social media platforms.
