Stunt Scholarships

STUNT is revolutionizing the world of collegiate athletics, offering a dynamic and rapidly growing pathway for talented athletes to pursue their academic and athletic dreams in the United States. Unlike traditional cheerleading, STUNT is a competitive team sport that focuses solely on the athletic and technical elements: partner stunts, pyramids, tosses, jumps, and tumbling. This head-to-head, four-quarter format emphasizes precision, execution, and strategic prowess, transforming cheerleading skills into a thrilling display of athleticism.

The rise of STUNT as a collegiate sport has been remarkable. Having achieved Emerging Sport for Women status with the NCAA across all three divisions (NCAA DI, DII, and DIII), STUNT has quickly met and surpassed the minimum threshold of 40 sponsoring institutions, a crucial step towards becoming a fully sanctioned NCAA Championship sport as early as Spring 2027. This rapid expansion signifies a wealth of new opportunities for aspiring student-athletes to gain scholarships and compete at a high level.

College STUNT programs are actively recruiting athletes who demonstrate exceptional skill in all four quarters of the game, along with the dedication and teamwork required to succeed in a competitive environment. Coaches are looking for athletes who not only excel in the technical aspects of stunting, tumbling, and jumping but also possess strong academic records. If you're an ambitious STUNT athlete ready to take your talent to the next level and unlock a world-class education, FirstPoint USA is your trusted partner on this exciting journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

The exact number of Stunt scholarships can vary, as it's a relatively new and emerging sport. However, Stunt is growing rapidly, with 40 schools sponsoring varsity Stunt teams as of the 2024-25 academic year across NCAA Divisions II and III, and NAIA. While there aren't set rules for scholarship limits across all divisions (except for NAIA, which limits teams to 12 full scholarships), many colleges offer scholarships ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars annually. Full-ride scholarships are not as common but do exist. The more competitive and established the program, the more funding they generally have for student-athletes.

Securing a Stunt scholarship requires a combination of athletic talent and academic excellence. We encourage you to identify colleges and universities that offer Stunt programs and scholarships. Not all schools will have them, so targeted research is crucial. Showcase your Stunt skills through a video demonstrating various performances, including stunts, pyramids, jumps, and tumbling. Make sure it's well-lit and stable, ideally on a cheer or dead floor. Emphasize any unique or advanced skills you possess, such as complex tumbling passes or difficult stunts. Leadership experience is also a plus.

College Stunt coaches actively recruit athletes through various avenues including Cheer Combines, High School/Club Stunt Games, Competitions, and Practices, College Stunt Clinics and Open Gyms: and Recruiting Videos: Many coaches request and review recruiting videos that showcase an athlete's skills.

To maximize your chances of receiving a Stunt scholarship, athletes should develop strong stunt skills, maintain excellent Academics as a high GPA and strong academic record make you a more attractive candidate, create a high-quality recruiting video and actively engage in the recruitment process. Start early - begin your research and recruitment efforts well before your senior year of high school and be coachable - show a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and strong teamwork skills.

While specific requirements can vary by institution and division, a general standard for Stunt eligibility, as set by USA Cheer for Stunt programs, includes:

  • Full-time Enrollment: You must be enrolled and attending as a full-time student each term (typically a minimum of nine units per term, with an exception for a final term where six units may suffice).
  • Minimum GPA: Athletes are generally required to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Institutional and Division Regulations: In addition to USA Cheer's requirements, you'll also need to meet the academic eligibility criteria set by the specific college or university and its governing division (NCAA I, II, III, or NAIA). Always check with the institution's compliance officer for detailed requirements.

Stunt is considered an emerging sport in the NCAA and is rapidly growing in popularity. This means that while it may not have the same number of programs or scholarships as more established NCAA sports, its competitiveness is increasing. More and more schools are sponsoring Stunt teams, leading to a higher level of play and more athletes vying for positions and scholarships. The sport is designed to be highly competitive, with a head-to-head, four-quarter format emphasizing precision and execution of skills.

Yes, Stunt has received approval as an NCAA emerging sport for women across Divisions I, II, and III. This means it is on track to achieve NCAA championship status by spring 2027. The designation of "emerging sport" signifies that the NCAA is supporting its development with the goal of it becoming a fully recognized championship sport. This status helps schools offer more athletic opportunities for women and expand their sport-sponsorship options, and it means the sport is governed by USA Cheer.
