Congratulations to FirstPoint USA client, Max Dalgarno, who has recently committed to a soccer scholarship at Louisiana State University of Alexandria. In his soccer career so far, Max has played with Invergordon FC, Ross County, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Brora Rangers. Here, Max tells us how he found the process of obtaining his scholarship, why he chose to attend LSUA, and what he is most looking forward to upon arriving in the states.
Max tells us that he was drawn to studying in the US as it will provide him with the opportunity to play soccer at a high level whilst simultaneously obtaining his degree – something which is not really an option in the UK. Therefore, Max felt that having been given the opportunity, it was too good a chance to turn down.
Regarding the scholarship process, Max tells us that it went pretty smoothly. “George was great as he would constantly keep me updated with incoming offers and would give me advice on each university, which helped me in finally choosing LSUA. Additionally, the client games I attended, especially the one at St. George’s Park, were incredible experiences.”
Max states that there were a number of key factors that influenced his decision to attend LSUA…
“LSUA had reached the NAIA National Championships last year which immediately grabbed my attention as I knew I wanted to be a part of a successful soccer team.
Coach Chatman was very helpful and gave me the contact details of a boy in the team from Scotland. I spoke to him regularly and he couldn’t speak more highly of LSUA and told me that the teams goal for the upcoming season is to win the NAIA Championship – which is why I want to be a part of the LSUA soccer team.

In late July, Max tells is that he will be heading out to the US, stating that he is very excited to meet up with his team and to begin preparations for the upcoming season. Max is also looking forward to travelling the states with him teammates when playing fixtures, but also for when he and his teammates have some free time and are able to experience some more of the American culture.
Finally, we asked Max where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He tells us he would love to be playing soccer professionally which, if possible, would be fantastic. But states that if no, he would like to be living abroad, and becoming a sports analyst for a professional team. Whatever happens, Max tells us he just can’t wait to get started!
We’d like to wish Max the best of luck in his studies and playing career at LSUA, and we will keep you updated on his progress through our various social media platforms.
