We recently caught up with one of the newest soccer players to join the ranks here at FirstPoint USA, Nathaniel Wong. Hailing from Hong Kong, Nathaniel is a former pupil of DBS and Kellett Schools in Hong Kong, and is currently pupil at Millfield School. Here, the soccer player shares with us his sporting background and achievements, the reasons he wishes to pursue a sports scholarship in the US, and his future aspirations.
In his sporting career to date, Nathaniel has played with a number of teams; Sun Pegasus HK Academy U13, Kitchee HK Academy U14-16, and Millfield U14-16. Currently, Nathaniel plays for Millfield 1st XI and is on trial with the Hong Kong National team. Having had experiences with a number of different teams, Nathaniel has attained numerous sporting achievements throughout this playing career so far, including receiving Sports Scholarships from both DBS and Millfield Schools. As well as this, Nathaniel and the DBS School U14 team were finalists in the Inter-School Hong Kong Competition, Champions of the International School Sports Federation of Hong Kong with Kellett School U14 team, Champions of the Nike Manchester United Cup with Kitchee U 15 team, and Champions of the Independent Schools Football Association with the Millfield U15 team. With a number of sporting successes and experiences under his belt, Nathaniel states that his favourite memory to date has been obtaining a Sports Scholarship from Millfield School.
Nathaniel tells us that he wishes to study in the USA as it is will allow him to continue playing his sport, whilst also studying towards earning a degree. Upon arriving in the US, and beginning life as a student-athlete, Nathaniel states he is mostly looking forward to playing in one of the most professional environments in the world; playing alongside, or against, some of the best players in the USA in front of big crowds with media coverage.
We often ask our newest clients to identify their top three sportspeople of all time. Nathaniel stated his to be, “Cristiano Ronaldo, Kobe Bryant and Ji-Sung Park because of their dedication, hard-work, and mentality to become the best athletes in the world.”
Finally, we asked Nathaniel where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He tells us that he hopes to still be in the States and playing in the MLS.
We’d like to thank Nathaniel for catching up with us. We'll keep you updated on Nathaniel’s progress throughout the scholarship process across our various social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
