FirstPoint USA would like to welcome the newest soccer player to join the ranks, Cameron Hendry. Hailing from Kanturk in Co. Cork, Ireland, Cameron attended Coláiste Treasa Secondary School. Here, we caught up with Cameron to find out some more about his sporting background and experiences to date, why he wishes to study in the USA, and where he sees himself in the future.

Cameron tells us that he began playing with Kanturk at U11’s and stayed there until he was with the U16 team. Within that time, Cameron tells us he, and his teammates, won two league titles in 2014 and 2015 as well as the Cup in 2014. Additionally, Cameron has also been involved with the Cork underage squads, winning an All-Ireland and a Munster at U16 level, as well as having been on trial for Ireland in June 2016. Since then, Cameron signed for Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland U16, where he stayed for two seasons.

Having had a number of various experiences and successes throughout his sporting career to date, Cameron tell us that his favourite sporting experience so far, was being on trial for Ireland. He added that it was great to see the different standard of players, and play alongside some top-class players who were already playing with major clubs.

When we asked Cameron to tell us about his top three sportspeople of all time, he stated...

“Steven Gerrard as he’s always had his head up and could play any pass, whether it was 5 or 40 yards; he was always a solid midfielder. Ronaldinho as he has great skill and speed, and has always had a great mindset of the game. Antonio Valencia as he’s the best athlete in the Premier League with great strength, athleticism and speed, as well as being a great leader.”

Cameron has stated that he was drawn towards studying in the US as it will provide him with the chance to continue his education and finish with a degree, whilst also being able to continue playing soccer. Upon moving out to the States and starting his life as a student-athlete, Cameron tells us that he is most looking forward to playing soccer at a high standard and in a new country, as well as experiencing the college lifestyle.

Finally, we asked Cameron where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He states that he hopes to playing soccer professionally and living a good, comfortable life.
