FirstPoint USA, the world’s leading international US sports scholarship agency, is pleased to announce the appointment of former GB Men’s Head Performance Coach Jerome Read as Head of Scouting for Water Polo.

Jerome, who won a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, is one of the most respected names in the country for water polo, earning more than 150 international caps for GB and England during an illustrious career.

He brings strong connections with sport and education, having served as the first Performance Sport Manager at the Manchester Metropolitan University, where he was previously the institution’s head coach for water polo. He is also a BUCS Sport Advisory Group member for water polo, and currently President of West London Swimming & Water Polo Club.

Water polo is a growing college sport in the USA, with around 100 varsity programs across the NCAA and NAIA, with the women’s game very much on the rise. The sport is strong in California and the Northeast, with UCLA, USC and Stanford the three highest ranked programs in the country. Stanford won the 2025 National Championship for women’s water polo, with UCLA clinching the last two men’s water polo titles.

Andrew Kean, CEO and Founder of FirstPoint USA, said: “We are thrilled to welcome a professional of Jerome’s calibre and reputation to the FirstPoint USA team, and he will be a great addition to our scouting network. We look forward to supporting more talented water polo athletes and working with them to navigate their US collegiate journeys and secure life-changing opportunities in the States.”
