FirstPoint USA Athletes Shining in the States Across College Track & Field Events

4 min read

With the sporting spotlight on track and field at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and upcoming European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, we’re shining a light on another outstanding year for FirstPoint’s current generation of student-athletes thriving in the U.S. collegiate system.

From middle-distance dominance to record-breaking multi-event performances, FirstPoint athletes continue to showcase the profound impact international talent makes on American college sports.

Middle-Distance Excellence at Oklahoma State

One of the headline achievements of the year came from Englishman Alex Riley, whose rapid progression at Oklahoma State University established the Brighton runner among an elite group of milers. Breaking the coveted four-minute mile barrier remains one of athletics' most revered milestones, and Riley's performances highlight both his talent and development within one of the top programs in the country.

The Cowboys’ freshman enjoyed a stellar debut season, finishing fourth in the Big 12 Conference 1500m Championship and setting impressive personal bests of 1:48 (800m), 3:37 (1500m), and 3:55 (mile).

Teammate and Scottish international Oliver Patton also added to Oklahoma State's middle-distance success. In an impressive sophomore season, Patton lowered his personal bests to 1:51 (800m), 3:38 (1500m), and 3:58 (mile). Alongside Riley, Patton qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships, and the duo played key roles in securing Oklahoma State's fourth-place finish in the Big 12 Distance Medley Relay.

Mighty Performances on the Multi-Events Stage

In the combined events, Harvard University’s Yannick Kraus (has thrived in what has been a breakthrough freshman campaign. The talented German athlete secured an Ivy League Indoor Championship bronze medal and set a new Harvard Indoor Heptathlon record before punching his ticket for the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon after recording 7,407 Decathlon points at the German Championships. His progression highlights exceptional versatility, consistency, and competitive maturity across the ten demanding disciplines of the decathlon, and we look forward to seeing him perform on the global stage next month.

At the University of Texas at San Antonio, Finn O'Neill also made headlines. O'Neill broke the Irish Under-23 Heptathlon Record in December before elevating his Decathlon personal best to over 7,200 points. Capping off his remarkable season with a silver medal at the American Athletic Conference Championships, O'Neill has firmly established himself as one of Ireland's most promising multi-event stars and a serious contender for future conference and national honours.

The women's multi-events produced equally compelling success. Competing for California State University, Fullerton, Mayalee Osola delivered a standout campaign highlighted by a school-record 5,176 points in the heptathlon. Osola regularly battles for top honors alongside her teammates, demonstrating the immense benefits of training within a close-knit, highly competitive squad environment.

Milestones and Personal Bests

FirstPoint’s middle-distance strength extended to Life University through Scottish freshman Josh McKinlay. The Kilbarchan AC runner dropped more than five seconds off his 1500m time this year to set a new personal best of 3:52.70. McKinlay anchored Life to conference gold in the 4x800m relay, positioning himself as a strong contender for future individual NAIA titles.

Success at Life University was a team effort, as fellow Scot Omar Bajo provided crucial depth to the Eagles' sprint and relay program. Omar helped secure conference gold in the 4x400m relay while setting a personal best of 22.23 seconds in the 200m.

Rounding out the cohort, British middle-distance runner Nina Allmark adapted seamlessly to life at the University of Texas at Tyler. A member of the Ultimate Athletics team in Dubai, Allmark steadily improved throughout her debut season, cutting nearly three seconds off her 800m time to record a new best of 2:13 while making big strides in the 400m.
